At first glance you wouldn’t know this video was shot by a bunch of young but talented guys out in Ohio, but man the video looks great. I’m sitting here listening to it on my Grados and it sounds just as awesome. This is a band called Kairos House who one of my good friends from college is in. We shot a lot of video together while we were there, and he happend to edit this one as well. If you love math rock and interesting rhythms check out this video, then LIKE them here on Facebook.

Surprise Proposal

3 Cameras = 1 Video

If you know me, you’ll know I like shooting video. Especially since I’ve jacked Mindy’s 5D Mk II for a little bit, I’m trying to get in all the video (and photos) I can. Myself, @nonnerfan, & @johntibbsmusic set out to make a nice Christmas video tonight and I think we accomplished that. While the video isn’t ready for your eyes just yet, I’ve got some stills from the video that I posted below and wanted to share.

We shot this with three cameras. Which is twice more than I normally shoot my dinky videos with. It’s currently in FCP X as I chop between the shots. Jon Class is also working on the audio from the shoot too. It was a fun experience as I had the 5D on my right on a tripod, and the 7D on my left on a tripod. I was then right in the middle shooting handheld on a T2i. I should have took some behind the scenes pictures but I’ll still walk you through how we did this setup.

As I stated we had three cameras, 5D Mk II, 7D, & the T2i. On the 5D was the 35mm f/1.4L, on the 7D was the 24-70mm f/2.8L, and the T2i as puny as it already felt between these beasts had the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens on it.

You’ll have to ask Jon Class what model mics we used, but he had a condenser on himself and his accordion. Tibbs had a large diaphragm condenser on his vox and guitar. Those both ran into the Zoom H4N’s XLR inputs.

I grabbed a cheap Cowboy Studio lighting kit from Amazon this fall, you can see one in the shots. I didn’t mind and chose to left it where it was. It was more so a hair light, but after resetting our positions I liked having it in the shot. Especially since there is a very cool light (on the light temparature scale) to the left of Jon Class, then a warm one to the right of John Tibbs. There are then two more softboxes with one light in them to the left and right of my camera setup. These both had 5500K bulbs in them, they matched the hair light.

As far as camera settings go, they were all on manual and shot at 1080p 24FPS. Auto white balance, neutral color profile, ISO 800, and shutter speed was 50.

Founders Park

I was out running errands today, and while waiting on some pants that were getting hemmed I visited Founders Park. It’s a small but cool park in the Carmel/Fishers area. I happened to visit right as magic hour was in progress, so I parked and took a walk in the chilly but beautiful sun light. I took some video clips and did find some cool locations while I was at it. Checkout the video, you may see some pictures in the future from Founders Park.

Through The Glass

Here’s my latest camera & glass getup. I’ve really been digging the 24-70mm, a good all purpose lens with an equivalent of 38.4-112mm on the 7D. It’s fast all the way through the focal lengths too at f/2.8. Of course being an L it has great color and sharpness, especially when shooting at smaller apertures.

The good old “nifty fifty” is another staple in anyones lens collection. The 50mm or 85mm are great portrait lenses, and being a prime it stops down to f/1.4. The 50mm f/1.4 is a surprising good bargain for quality v price. Still though, who wouldn’t love the L version of this for some super shallow DOF at f/1.2 if needed.

Breakfast

End Of The Trail
